Version 2.62 Released

Small bug fix version again that makes local feeds work, for example /home/user/file.rss.

FAQ Added

In addition to a new version, today I’ve added a much-needed, yet brief FAQ to the site. If you have a question you’d like to see added, let me know at

Version 2.61 Released

Good news everyone, the rss2email project is not dead. It’s been a while, but I hope to begin adding some new features in the not too distant future.

In the meantime, version 2.61 is now available here. It’s mostly a small bug fix version. Please do check the CHANGELOG to see if I’ve tried to fix something that affects you and let me know if it isn’t working as intended.

Version 2.60 Released

Version 2.60 is now available for download. This version only has a couple of bug fixes: support for SunOS and a fix for From headers with international characters.

Version 2.59 Released

The latest and greatest version of rss2email is now available for download. Version 2.59 fixes a few significant bugs and adds some nice features, namely support for RSS enclosures and CSS styling of HTML mails. That’s a sample of the default styling on the right. To turn on CSS, add USE_CSS_STYLING = 1 to your file.

Check the official CHANGELOG for more.

New web UI released

We’re pleased to announce the availability of r2eui, a web UI for rss2email. Based on, it’s a simple way to manage your feed list. As with any 1.00 release we don’t expect to be 100% bug free, so if you have any problems or comments let us know at

Version 2.58 Released

The latest and greatest version of rss2email is now available for download. Version 2.58 should finally fix some lingering bugs with non-US characters and rss2email hanging on non-responsive feeds. Check the official CHANGELOG for more.

I’ve tested this version on 200 or more feeds that users have reported as problematic in the past and this version seems to behave in sending properly encoded emails.

If you’ve still got a feed that doesn’t display as you expect, let me know at

New Home for rss2email

Hello all, this is Lindsey Smith, the new maintainer of rss2email. Welcome to the new web home of rss2email, everyone’s favorite and most aptly named RSS newsfeed reader.

Aaron Swartz originally wrote rss2email I-don’t-know-how-long-ago and has put a lot of time into upgrading and maintaining it. These days, though, he’s got a lot of other projects on his plate (including this site’s host, Infogami), so I’ll be doing most of the bug-fixing and feature-adding in the future.

So watch this space, or better yet subscribe to the feed (, for some new tricks up rss2email’s sleeve.
